The Butterfly Mermaids

I wish I could post all of my camp pictures and show you guys how good I had it this week. Every summer since I was 16, I've gotten to volunteer at a cancer camp. It's actually a really hard job. It's the best though.

My job was being the mother hen of the 6-7 year old girls this year. Our cabin name was the butterfly mermaids. Those eight girls sure liked keeping busy. I was completely exhausted every night. I loved it. We did swimming, field games, so many arts and crafts (the girls made me lots of cactus pictures :) ), laughed our way down ropes courses, archery, etc, etc! Those six year olds really gave me a run for my money.

On the last morning of camp I woke up to a tiny little moan in the corner. I tried to ignore it and figured it was just one of the typical morning groans. I figured it would go away in a little bit. Then sweet little Presley comes out of her bed and announces she's going to throw up. I've never thrown out of bed so fast in my whole life. Right when we got her outside, she came unglued. We ran her to the nurses station as fast as I could. I got to spend the whole morning taking care of sick Presley. It was magic. As she was drawing me a picture and laughing at the tattoos she had just put on my face, I had the impression that this is exactly what I want to do as a career. There is nothing that I can see as more important as a career than taking care of sweet kids like her. She told me all about my favorite nurses and her stay in the hospital. Guys it was pure magic. Oh how I love my week of being the mother hen of 6 year old cancer patients. Next week is dedicated to the 13 year olds. Wish me luck.

Aloha

Growing up, I've always felt the closest to Mary. Probably because she stuck around the longest to play barbies with me. We used to do everything together. We would play house for hours and hours when we were little. We would pretend have 14 kids each just so we could use all of our baby dolls. I loved playing with her. She was my best friend.

This week I get to step into Mary's world at BYU Hawaii. I've been in vacation mode so I've gotten the sugar coated experience but it has been a dream. Her roommates are hilarious and so good at being themselves no matter what. Even though almost all of Mary's friends have either flashed me or mooned me, I've loved getting to know them.

While Mary is at school or work, I'll usually go for a run on the beach, do a session at the temple, or just lay on the beach/her backyard.

We've paddle boarded, surfed, hiked, cliff jumped, swam, played, laughed and it's only day 4! Oh how I've loved this crazy vacation with my main gal, Mary. It's made me regret that I haven't gotten to spend more time with her since being home from my mission. She is way more of a missionary now than I ever will be or have been. She's just about the coolest person I know. I love you Mary.

Oh....we can check swimming with sharks off the list :)

#8 Donate Blood (Check)

I did it! A liter of Carly's blood is off to some other humans body somewhere! I"ll be honest, I was a hot mess walking into the Red Cross Blood Bank but Kyle wouldn't let me turn around.

I even ended up doing everything on my own while Kyle was answering questions about his trips around the world. He was furious that he missed it but I got through the questions, needle, draining, and bandaging all by myself! WHAOOOO! This officially means that I'm safe to attempt to be a nurse. That's at least what I'm planning on repeating to myself during my next 3 years of excruciating schooling. Look out world! Carly is coming through!

This may seem like a dumb fear but it's been a real one for quit some time. I feel pretty proud of myself for getting through and being brave.

MY LIVE LIST

My sister nanny's for a woman who created a "Live List" for herself. It's basically a bucket list that will never end. As soon as you cross something off the list you put something new in it's place. There is always 15 things on the list. I've decided I have a lot that I want to accomplish. I struggle with taking a break from the "must do's". Most of the things on the list will take a while to accomplish. That's the point of a bucket list, right? I believe that goals define who you want to become. My live list is a small piece of the person I want to become.

  • 1. Fly a plane.
  • 2. Get on TV
  • 3. Ride in a Hot Air Balloon
  • 4. Get married in the temple.
  • 5. Go to Nursing School
  • 6. Run A Marathon or Ragnar...or both
  • 7. Get to Europe
  • 8. Donate Blood
  • 9. Go on a trip with 100% no planning not even the destination.
  • 10. Learn how to make cinnamon orange rolls that are half as good as my moms.
  • 11. Get a 4.0 in at least one semester at BYU.
  • 12. Spend a whole day hiking/rock climbing/hammocking in the mountains.
  • 13. Jump into a pool fully clothed!
  • 14. Learn how to sail.
  • 15. Swim with Sharks

Here Comes the Bride.

Words can't explain what it was like to be back with my girls again. I'll admit. I was exhausted and it was a little rough to be with the married folks all day but it's was incredible to watch Kalli glow the entire day. She's beautiful inside and out. Kalli is the most loyal friend I've ever had. I miss being her roommate, sleeping in her bed more than my own, the letters she would write me as a missionary. I don't think Kalli ever missed a week of emailing. This girl is one of my biggest blessings and favorite superheros. I love you Kalli. Congrats.

This is the Utah State Crew. We killed it on the dance floor once again. We have one more still on a mission and then we can finally open the time capsule from 2014.

Frozen Solid

What happened to me?!?! I used to run nonstop. I loved it last winter semester. Matt somehow got me to wake up early on a Saturday morning and put on layer after layer to do my favorite run- the Utah lake train.

The amount of layers I thought this run would require was a little too much. I've officially learned that wearing 15 pounds worth of clothes would mean 15 pounds to carry through the trail! Next time, I'm leaving some layers at home.

Running again felt amazing. I had forgotten why I love running so much. As soon as the run was over  that satisfied feeling came back. Look out Provo! I'm hitting the streets again for round 2.

New Girl

New Girl. It's entirely inappropriate and takes way too much of my time. Kira introduced me to this TV series right before the break. New Girl is about a girl and her three roommates. After hanging out with Matt, Chris, and Vince this weekend I realized I've got three of the exact same homies.

Winston= Chris (the softy that is way too nice for his own good)
Nick= Matt (Kind of the leader of the pack that loves to argue)
Schmidt= Vince (the one that is way too confident that every girl will fall in love with him)

My new years did not go how I pictured it. Does it ever?
I spent the night with these goofs as the wing woman. Vince would pick a cute girl and it was my job to be her friend then introduce her to Vince. I think he got at least 4 numbers out of it. Meanwhile Matt and Chris played a charades game on Chirs' phone. Oh to be a crazy college kid! (eye roll emoji)

I really am pretty lucky to have these homies. I don't hang out with them nearly often enough.

CHEERS TO 2017.
